“At SALC, we work with your council to help it provide exceptional service to Somerset’s communities. Parish and town councils are stronger together, and through membership of SALC we can be assured of a confident sector voice heard throughout local and central government.”–Justin Robinson, SALC CEO
Our advice, guidance, and training covers a raft of topics including financial, legal, human resources, health and wellbeing, governance and procedural issues. Members can view and download from this website the latest NALC legal topic notes, policy briefings, publications, document templates, and other sector specific information.
SALC is proud to work in partnership with principal authorities and other bodies to support Somerset’s local councils. We have had significant input to the process of planning for the management of local government reorganisation, and we are working with Somerset County Council to deliver a high value health & wellbeing project and grants programme.

Membership of SALC is open to all parish and town councils and parish meetings within Somerset and is secured by payment of an annual subscription fee based on electorate numbers within a town or parish.
Membership provides access to the services of the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), the only body dedicated to promoting the interests of member councils at the national level. NALC works with the Government, main political opposition parties, parliament, in the local and national press, and works in liaison with other bodies such as the Standards Board, Local Government Association, Audit Commission and the Commission for Rural Communities.
