Bawdrip Parish Council wishes to appoint a Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer (RFO) due to the impending retirement of the present holder.
The position is permanent (subject to a probation period of 3 months) home based, part time (20 hours per calendar month). Attendance is required at Parish Council Meetings which are usually held in Bawdrip Parish Hall on the first Tuesday of the month (other than an August recess). Sometimes circumstances dictate the holding of extraordinary meetings at which the Clerk has also to be present.
The person appointed will be responsible to prepare and publish formal agenda and minutes of the meetings, arrange any extra meetings, process correspondence (hard copy and electronic) including responding to planning applications, provide guidance on policy and legal matters, updating notice boards, be involved with the Parish website and potentially other social media activities together with other duties stipulated by the Council. The Clerk will be the principal contact for Parish Council matters. As the RFO (designated Section 151 Officer), the Clerk also holds the responsibility for all administration of the Council’s finances including budgeting and preparation of the annual accounts.
Previous experience in Local Government is desirable but not essential as training will be provided via the Somerset Association of Local Councils. Candidates should be competent in the use of MS Word and Excel or equivalent software.
The post is paid at Scale Point 7- 2 (£14.14 to £15.31 per hour) of the National Joint Council salary scale, starting point will be dependent on experience and qualifications.
Some space at home will be required to store Parish Council records.
